Background Leadership Academy is a men’s discipleship program that teaches young men the to become better at life and more effective as men through clear vision and purpose.
The foundation is knowing what is right, doing what is right, and inspiring others to do the same.
After that foundation is laid, we instill in these men the lost lessons of practical leadership that so few know today, so that they can make a difference and bring others with them.
Hi, I’m Jake Miller, and I help young men learn how to lead themselves and others.
I started this ministry because I know what it’s like to be the guy who wants more from life, but doesn’t know how to get it.
I learned many things the hard way, and over a great deal of time.
My hope is to lead other men into that freedom much quicker and more effectively than I was able to get it.

Pillars in the Academy
Knowing what the right thing is
Knowing what is right is essential to the Christian walk.
God's Word practically guides us in how to know His will, yet a majority of Christians struggle greatly with this major area of their Christian walk.
In the Academy, we offer online and in person training to teach young Christians how to practically know God's will for their life.
Doing what the right thing is
The second major pillar of the Christian walk that we pursue is what we call "the path of transformation", otherwise known as doing the right thing in life.
We must first know what is right, then we must do it.
Again, we believe a majority of Christians in today's church struggle with understanding what the path to maturity looks like.
How can we walk a path that we can't even see clearly in front of us?
Through the Academy we offer training to practically teach how this works in the life of a follower of Christ.
Against all Odds and Opposition
We believe that once we truly know what the right thing is, and do it, that the Bible teaches us that our enemies (the flesh, Satan, and the world system) are coming after us ("all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted (2 Timothy 3:12).
Training in the academy teaches men how to handle this opposition as well.

Online Leadership Training
BLA has specific online leadership training available. Here you can learn the principles that leaders apply to their lives, and specifically to their decision making.
In-Person Teaching and Preaching
Jacob is a retired police officer, a pastor of 11 years, and a 6 year church planter. He is available for retreats, conferences and other men’s events.

Outpost Training
If you are local to the southwest Missouri area, you can sign up to regularly attend Outpost Training.
At Outpost Training seminars, Jacob comes on site once a week for twelve weeks, and together we build a stronger body/mind/spirit so that we can practically become stronger leaders together.
These groups will be age oriented (youth, college, adult men).
This ministry is built upon the principle that there is nothing in this life that is more important than our relationships.
First, our relationship with God through Jesus Christ is the most important thing about us.
Second, our relationship with others. Of all of the "things" that we can put in our lives, people are what matter most.
